Jawatan Kosong Government Affairs and Public Policy Manager in Kuala Lumpur

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 7 years of experience in policy analysis and campaigns, working on technology issues or the policy environments that surround them.
• 7 years of experience working within government, think tanks, public interest groups, technology industry groups, or corporate public policy organizations.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with Internet technologies and the policy environments that surround them.
• Ability to stay informed on the technical and regulatory issues.
• Ability to travel as needed.
• Ability to communicate in English and Bahasa Melayu fluently to support client relationship management in the region.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and translation skills.
• Interest in the role of Internet in a modern society.

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities

• Represent Google externally at the appropriate levels of policy-making and Government in Malaysia and the Philippines.
• Develop and execute government affairs and public policy strategies that align with Google's business objectives and values in Malaysia and the Philippines.
• Lead and manage key policy campaigns, advocating for Google's interests on a wide range of issues including data privacy, AI ethics, digital economy, content regulation, and competition.
• Build and nurture a network of trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, academics, and other third-party allies to support policies that promote an open internet and a user-focused online environment.
• Ensure timely internal communications and information flow locally and with global colleagues, providing counsel to cross-functional teams and leadership.
